Morning Skincare Routine

Today I’m sharing a quick post on my morning skincare routine. My morning routine is significantly shorter than my evening routine (stay tuned for that on Thursday). In fact, I’m not sure you can call using two products a “routine”, but I find that morning skincare is much more about timing and multitasking products than evening skincare can be.

In the mornings, my first priority is rinsing my face off with cold water, gently massaging to get the blood flowing while simultaneously removing any remaining products worn overnight like a mask, oil, or moisturizer.

Next, I apply my moisturizer which contains SPF. My favorite for years (possibly over a decade) has been the Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer. I nearly always use the SPF 30 version, but they were sold out in two stores when I desperately went searching for one after scraping the last bit out of my previous bottle, so I grabbed the SPF 15, and it’s been great as well. I will be going back to the 30 soon, since the sun is already getting stronger in Southern California.

I always try to keep in mind what sort of neckline my top or dress for the day is going to be, and apply the moisturizer down my neck and chest accordingly. If you don’t really want to bother with the step of a face primer, this moisturizer can really do double duty. I find that my makeup stays on for a long time when I use this, even without an additional primer.

Finally, I apply an eye cream. I have been using this little baby sample of the Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream for a few weeks, and I really enjoy it. It contains caffeine and is both a little illuminating and a little peachy pink, which I feel like helps to depuff and brighten. It also has been wearing really well under makeup. I highly recommend this product, but I would really love if Origins packaged their full-size version in a squeeze tube instead of a little jar.

My biggest piece of advice for morning skincare is to make it the first thing you do so the products have time to sink in. I pop in my contacts and head straight for the sink in the mornings so my products have as long as possible to melt into my skin while I brush my teeth, get dressed, and do whatever else I need to in the mornings before applying my makeup.

What does your morning skincare routine look like? I would love to hear your favorite products and tips!
